I remain active in the community, serving on numerous boards, and have been part of many community protests:

Sep 2009 – present: Serve on Board for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast, Houston TX.
Jul 2007 – present: Serve on Advisory Board for Artists Rescue Mission, a non-profit arts organization created to assist artists in distress, Houston TX.
May 2007 –  present: Serve on Advisory Board for Houston Palestine Film Festival, Houston TX.
June 2001 –  present: Serve on Board for Voices Breaking Boundaries, Houston TX.
Feb 2004 – Sep 06: Served on Advisory Board for National Association of Arts Organizations (NAAO), an advocacy group for artists and arts organizations.
Sep 2005 –Oct 2006: Served on Board for Friends of Women’s Studies, University of Houston, Houston TX.
Sep 2003 –May 2006: Served on Advisory Board for Daya, a support service that addresses domestic violence in Houston’s South Asian community, Houston TX.
Mar 2004: Emceed a protest rally against the US invasion of Iraq, Houston TX.
May 2002 – Dec 2004: Radio Co-Host and co-producer for LivingArt on KPFT 90.1 FM Pacifica Radio, Houston TX.
Sep 2000 – May 2003: Served on Artist Board for DiverseWorks Artspace, Houston TX.
May 1988 - Sep 1989: Served as a telephone volunteer at the Austin Center for Battered Women, Austin TX.
Apr 1986 - May 1986: Participated in protests against US bombings of Libya, New York, NY.
Mar 1985 - May 1986: Participated in Take Back the Night Protests, New York, NY.
Sep 1984 - Dec 1984: Organized and participated in protests for diverstment of funds from South Africa, while enrolled as a student at Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, MA.
Jan 1980 - Aug 1982: Participated in protests and rallies in support of women's rights for the Women's Action Forum, Karachi, Pakistan.
